Nike - The Greek goddess of victory, she was associated with Athena (who was a war goddess in addition to being a wisdom goddess) and one of the few Greek gods regularly depicted with wings, thus leading her to often being referred to as the "Winged Victory". She is, in a way, my namesake as my name is the feminine version of a French masculine name based off of the Greek Nikelaos. Nike, of course, meaning victory, and Laos meaning "of the people", so Nikelaos literally translates as "People's victory" or "victory of the people". When asked to choose a nickname, I tend to fall back on it because it fits, it's less cutesy than many of the other nicknames, and who doesn't like having the name of a god/goddess as their nickname?
gods - I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to explain what this means to me without getting into my views on religion. ( Potentially offensive religious opinions under the cut. )
Colorado - It's home. I'm a fifth-generation Coloradoan. I live on the plains portion of the state, but on clear days we get lovely views of the mountains and I always love visiting those. I really should drive up to Estes Park again one of these days. I also love how we're such an odd, friendly, eclectic mix of liberal, conservative, independent, and so on. Oh, and I like the music scene going on in Denver, even if it means I have trouble deciding what station to listen to - what a wonderful problem to have!
words - A wonderful way of expressing oneself. I know my vocabulary isn't as large as it could be, but I like expanding it - there's a reason there's a huge dictionary near me even now and my search options include dictionary.com. ;P
sexuality - I think of it as fluid and ever-changing. I strongly believe in sexual politics and have done so for longer than I've identified as an aromantic asexual which comes with its own set of problems. For example, I recently signed a petition requesting that sites that require some form of sexual identity in order to sign up recognize some of the other identities beyond straight, gay, and bi because I'm none of those things and it makes joining such sites awkward, because I am, by necessity, lying on my personal information. At any rate, as long as all the parties involved are capable of giving consent, I have no problem with anyone's sexuality.
